Discussion question #2

What does identity mean to you?

  1. Identity to me means self-actualization that I really understand myself and I know what I want to become. Identity should not be just a name; it is whether or not I can actually live my own life and do things I love instead of the purpose to fulfill others' expectations. The right identity leads one to achieve the best him/herself after diligence and work.

  2. Identity to me is the most comfortable way to express all my emotions and feelings without scared of being judged by other people. To each person I will show a different way of communicating, but they all link to my true identity that can be used to differentiate me from other people. In other words, I think identity is my true characteristics. I also wants to live to show my real self and never want to live up to someone's expectations. I think each person has several identities that they would use at different times and different places to different people, therefore the real definition of "identity" is rather hard to define rather than the concept of own's personalities.

  3. I think identity is a combination of your background/ your family history and who you define yourself as— including your values and your morals. This means that your identity is not set in stone, and it can be constantly changing throughout your life as you learn more about yourself and figure out how to be true to yourself.

  4. Identity is the thing that defines who we are and who we aspire to be. It's the actions and beliefs we advocate for, the decisions we are proud to make, and the way we carry ourselves. Identity isn't something that can be erased, however it can get lost. Trying to erase your identity is like looking through a broken mirror. The reflection still displays you, but the image is distorted due to the shattered glass. When our identity is lost, it can always be found. It's our past, the mistakes we've reflected on, and even the future we want to achieve. Identity is something we are proud to own up to. It's something that can never be faked or replaced.
